BGFC Academy Welcomes Darren Laver to Coaching Staff

Bowling Green, KY – BGFC Academy is proud to announce the addition of Darren Laver to its coaching staff, further strengthening the club’s commitment to long-term, player-first development.
Originally from Yeovil, Somerset, England, Coach Darren brings over 25 years of international coaching experience across youth, academy, and professional levels. His resume includes time with Leeds United, Bradford City, Challenger Sports, the Tennessee State Soccer Association, and Nashville SC Youth Programs.
In addition to coaching, Darren is a former professional player and one of only 24 athletes worldwide to be featured in EA Sports’ FIFA Street video game, where his creativity and street soccer flair gained international recognition.
He holds a UEFA B License, U.S. D License, and is a Certified Movement Specialist in both the Feldenkrais and Alexander Techniques. Darren is also a member of the Professional Football Scouts Association (PFSA).
As an author and educator, Darren wrote Street Soccer: The Coaches’ Guide – Coaching People, Creating Players and has contributed numerous articles on creativity, skill acquisition, and youth player development. He is currently completing a PhD focused on skill acquisition and transfer in youth soccer.
Darren’s coaching philosophy centers on creativity, decision-making, and player ownership. His training sessions are known for incorporating small-sided, street-style games that encourage expression, risk-taking, and a deep connection with the ball.
“I joined BGFC Academy to support a long-term, player-first approach,” Darren said. “My goal is to help young players fall in love with the ball, embrace challenges, and grow as both athletes and individuals.”
Darren also directs The 1v1 Panna Championship, a program that promotes creative, individual player development through high-tempo, one-on-one competition.
With Darren’s arrival, BGFC Academy continues its mission to redefine player development in the region by fostering an environment where athletes can explore, compete, and thrive.
